Welcome to DIFF 2012
Welcome to the 6th annual Dallas International Film Festival, presented by Boardwalk Auto Group Volkswagen Dealers and produced by the Dallas Film Society.
Since the Lumière brothers wowed audiences with their first short films in the mid-1890s, movies have made a mark with everyone who sees them. This Festival’s focus is not just to bring to Dallas contemporary independent films that make marks big enough for Texas and beyond, but also to recognize, promote and support the creatives behind this increasingly accessible and egalitarian art form.
We profusely thank our dedicated staff, Board of Directors, Advisory Council, Festival committees and juries, and DIFF’s hundreds of volunteers; without your guidance and efforts, this 11-day, 180-title survey of film’s artistic, educational and cultural import would be lost.
We’re also hugely appreciative of the philanthropic spirit embodied by our sponsors, donors, and new Dallas Film Society members. You are all supporting much more than us; your largesse benefits the artistic enrichment of thousands in North Texas. May it continue!
And thank you, filmmakers, for allowing us to feature your creations. We’re staggered by the work, commitment and innovation involved in each, and we vow to screen them with quality and enthusiasm to audiences with quality and enthusiasm. High cinematic art deserves no less.
Actually, words don’t completely express how incredibly grateful we are for the generous support of everyone involved with DIFF, from those above to our Festival and Community Partners and you, the moviegoer. Instead, we’ll let some of the best films in the world speak for us.
We welcome you all, and we look forward to seeing you throughout our celebration of the importance, power and glory of film.
Chairman of the Board
Texas Gov. Rick Perry
As Governor of Texas, it is my pleasure to welcome everyone to the 6th Annual Dallas International Film Festival.
From American independents to blockbuster features and from world cinema to documentaries, this festival’s competitions and showcases celebrate film, highlight the creative process, and educate fans and future filmmakers. I know this will be a rewarding experience for filmmakers and film lovers alike.
First Lady Anita Perry joins me in wishing our visitors a wonderful stay in Dallas.
Evan Fitzmaurice, Texas Film Commissioner
The Dallas International Film Festival is a crucial vehicle for the promotion of our Texas filmmakers, and a high-profile and important festival for national films looking for exposure. It is also a lot of fun to attend, as Dallas knows how to celebrate and embrace culture and arts like few cities in the country! I again congratulate the Festival’s board, staff and volunteers on an outstanding festival.
Dallas Mayor Michael S. Rawlings
On behalf of the City of Dallas, it is my pleasure to welcome you to Dallas for the Dallas International Film Festival!
The festival is an important piece of our ever-growing city. During your time here you will see many signs of our physical growth, such as our world class Arts District and new parks, museum and bridge.
Again, welcome to “Big D”, and I hope you enjoy the show, both on screen and off!
Janis Burklund, Dallas Film Commissioner
On behalf of the Dallas Film Commission, it is my pleasure to welcome you to a city with a film-friendly attitude!
We hope visiting filmmakers will take time to explore the wealth of diverse locations and give us a call or look for us around the festival to discuss future projects. We’d love to show you why Dallas should be the choice for your next project.
Enjoy the festival and your stay!
